On an Oscillation Criterion for a Second Order Linear Quasi-differential Equation
In this paper we give an oscillation criterion for the quasi-differential equation (py')' + qy = 0. The results include a generalisation of an oscillation theorem of Hartman. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for oscillation.

where p(x) is a continuous positive function for 0<x< oo. Equation (1) is said to be nonoscillatory in (a, oo) if no solution of (1) vanishes more than once in this interval. Because of the Sturm separation theorem, this is equivalent to the existence of a solution which does not vanish at all in (a, oo). The equation will be called nonoscillatory—without the interval being mentioned —if there ...
متن کاملOscillation and Nonoscillation Criteria for Second-order Linear Differential Equations
Sufficient conditions for oscillation and nonoscillation of second-order linear equations are established. 1. Statement of the Problem and Formulation of Basic Results Consider the differential equation u′′ + p(t)u = 0, (1) where p : [0, +∞[→ [0, +∞[ is an integrable function. By a solution of equation (1) is understood a function u : [0,+∞[→] − ∞, +∞[ which is locally absolutely continuous tog...
متن کاملAn Oscillation Criterion for Nonlinear Third-order Differential Equations
Sufficient conditions for oscillation of a certain class of nonlinear third-order differential equations are found. In this paper we considear a nonlinear third-order differential equation of the form y′′′ + q(t)y′ = f(t, y, y′, y′′) (1) where (i) q, q′ ∈ C ( (a,∞) ) for some a with 0 < a < ∞, (ii) f ∈ C ( (a,∞)×R3 ) , t ∈ (a,∞), and y1, y2, y3 ∈ R and f(t, y1, y2, y3)y1 < 0 for all t ∈ (a,∞) a...

on [0,∞), where Y (t), P (t) and Q(t) are n × n real continuous matrix functions on [0,∞) with P (t), Q(t) symmetric and P (t) positive definite for t ∈ [0,∞) (P (t) > 0, t ≥ 0). A solution Y (t) of (1.1) is said to be nontrivial if det Y (t) 6= 0 for at least one t ∈ [0,∞) and a nontrivial solution Y (t) of (1.1) is said to be prepared (selfconjugated) if Y ∗(t)P (t)Y ′(t)− Y ∗′(t)P (t)Y (t) ≡...
